The daily cycle

Store the sun. Use it after dark.

A solar battery stores the electricity your panels generate during the day and releases it in the evening — replacing expensive grid power at exactly the time electricity rates peak.

1

Day — panels generate

Solar panels produce power from sunrise. Your house uses it directly, and any surplus flows into the battery rather than out to the grid for a low feed-in rate.

2

Evening — battery discharges

From late afternoon through the 5–10 pm peak, the battery powers your home instead of the grid. This is when grid tariffs are highest — typically $0.30–$0.50 per kWh.

3

Overnight — smart top-up

If the battery runs low, it draws from the grid on off-peak rates. The system manages this automatically so you always have power in the morning.

4

Repeat every day

The cycle runs automatically. A 21 kWh battery typically covers 15–18 kWh of evening usage — saving a typical SA household $1,500–$2,500 per year from the battery alone.

Federal battery rebate

What the federal rebate is worth at each battery size

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program pays approximately $252 per usable kWh on the first 14 kWh of storage, with a reduced rate on capacity above that — applied at the quote, not chased later.

Battery size (usable kWh) Federal CHBP rebate What that size typically covers
10 kWh ~$2,520 Evening cover for a smaller home with a modest evening load.
13.5 kWh ~$3,402 Evening cover for an average household.
16 kWh ~$3,830 Evening peak cover for an average household, with headroom for high-usage nights.
21 kWh ~$4,586 Whole-home overnight cover — the most common single-home size.
28 kWh ~$5,645 Whole-home overnight cover for a large home, or a home with an EV in the driveway.

Rebate figures are the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program rate applied at the quote, subject to program terms.

Inverter Size Upgrade

Optional

Every battery we install comes paired with a matched hybrid inverter as standard. The default size is 5 kW — but if you have a larger solar array, high energy usage, or a three-phase home, we can upsize to 10 kW or 15 kW. We confirm the right size when we scope your system.

Blackout Protection

Popular add-on

Configure the battery to power essential circuits during a grid outage — lights, fridge, Wi-Fi, select power points. Requires a compatible switchboard, which we confirm before install.

Expand Your Solar

Maximises savings

A battery performs best when the solar array fully charges it before midday. If your current system is undersized, adding panels extends charging time and reduces your reliance on the grid overnight.

No solar yet? No problem.

Add solar panels at the same time and we'll bundle the install.

If you're starting from scratch, a combined solar + battery install on the same day reduces labour and scaffolding costs. We'll size the panels to fully charge the battery before midday, giving you whole-home overnight cover.

Why eHomes for this

Why do customers pick eHomes? Six reasons.

Use your own solar at night

Store the daytime generation, run the house off it through the evening peak.

Hedged against power-price hikes

Less exposure to grid tariffs. Your savings grow as electricity prices climb.

Backup-capable configurations

Our battery systems support backup-circuit configurations for essential loads during outages — ask if your switchboard supports it.

Every rebate handled

Federal STC, state battery rebates (where available), and any local schemes are confirmed at the quote and applied to the price you sign. No reimbursement chase later.

Smart export control

Sell back to the grid only when it pays. Avoid negative-feed-in periods automatically.

Future-proof inverter

New solar installs get hybrid-ready inverters by default — no replacement needed when you add the battery.

FAQ

Solar Battery — questions we get every day.

What battery brands do you install?

We install Fox ESS, GoodWe and SolaX — all chosen for AS/NZS certification, performance in Australian conditions, and full local warranty support. We recommend the brand that best fits your home and budget. Most homes are sized at 21kWh or more so the battery genuinely covers the evening peak rather than running flat by 9pm.

Am I eligible for a battery rebate?

Eligibility depends on your state and your current system. Federal incentives apply nationally; state-level battery rebates are confirmed when we quote based on your postcode.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?

Yes. If your current inverter isn't hybrid-ready we install an AC-coupled battery configuration that works alongside it.

Will it keep the lights on during a blackout?

With a backup-capable configuration and a compatible switchboard, yes — for designated essential circuits. We confirm the scope when we design your system.

What's the payback period?

Typically 6–9 years across Australia after rebates, depending on your state, usage pattern, and tariff. Run the savings calculator below for a postcode-specific estimate.

Which areas do you cover?

Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and surrounding regional areas. Our offices are listed on the Locations page.
